Hamilton’s International Student Report

This project is being developed in partnership with the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council (HIPC) and Workforce Planning Hamilton (WPH) to better understand the experiences of international students in Hamilton, with a focus on workforce participation, housing, and community connection.

The work began with HIPC’s Immigrant Survey, which was administered and cleaned by HIPC and shared with WPH for analysis. An initial review of the survey data was conducted to identify key areas for deeper exploration, and these early insights were shared with HIPC.

Building on this, WPH planned and hosted focus groups with international students to better understand the experiences behind the data and explore where and why workforce gaps exist.

Hamilton’s Hidden Challenges in Early Childhood Education

WPH has always strongly felt that the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Sector is an important backbone of our society. Without reliable and affordable childcare, parents are unable to go to work, therefore impacting our local workforce and economy.

The Ministry of Education estimates Ontario will require 8,500 additional ECE’s and childcare workers by 2026. Lower wages in the ECE sector are often discussed, but for this research we wanted to dig deeper into the pain points of our local ECE’s. Through interviews and surveys, we reached over 130 Hamilton-based ECE’s (and similar professions) to hear their feedback on the issues within Hamilton’s ECE sector.

Hamilton’s Job Satisfaction Survey

Over the years, WPH have heard from Hamilton employers about struggles to find qualified workers. In 2019, WPH designed the Hamilton Job Satisfaction Survey to better understand what keeps workers at their jobs.

Restart & Recovery: COVID-19 In Hamilton

WPH knew it was important to understand the impact COVID-19 had on Hamilton businesses and this survey was aimed at local employers to gather real time information. The survey was open from August 10 to 19th 2020, to all sectors and sizes, and focused on main aspects of business.

Hire Learning Survey 2015 Report

In January 2015 WPH released its second annual Hire Learning Survey (HLS). The survey’s goal is to capture real-time local labour market information, with the help of our partners.
