This project series explores the availability of skilled trades workers in the Trades.

2019

Workforce Planning Hamilton began an investigation into skills gaps in 2017 as we recognized the signs of a tightening labour market in the skilled trades. The narrative continues into 2020 with heightened apprehension among employers of a looming “hiring crisis.”

Under Pressure 2.0 is a result of speaking to over 130 local employers in the skilled trades and focuses on:

  • Hiring issues from employers’ perspectives
  • Hardest to fill skilled trades
  • Employers experiences and critiques on apprenticeships
  • Employers recommendations for potential solutions to the talent shortage
