Nick Petrella and Judy Travis, WPH Executive DirectorOver 70 people attended Workforce Planning Hamilton’s Supporting Healthy Minds at Work event. The event was held in partnership with City of Hamilton, Public Health Services, Healthy Environments Division, Healthy and Safe Communities Department.

Nick Petrella, a Mohawk College professor and mental health advocate, provided a powerful keynote address, From Mentally Ill to Mental Illness Advocate: How Understanding Mental Health will Help Create a Safe Working Environment.

Those attending had their choice of two workshops presented by Workplace Safety and Prevention Services and by Catholic Family Services.

Sixteen mental health services/programs, both local and Ontario-wide, provided resources for an information fair.

Two important resources were shared at the event.

Supporting Healthy Minds at Work: How to Help is a handy information sheet that lists local crisis lines and programs and resources for service providers and for employers.

Promoting Mental Well-Being in the Workplace reviews the importance of mental health and well-being in the workplace, and 13 factors that can affect workers in a positive manner with regards to their health.
